About Us

In 1998, a small group of Coptic students at Rutgers University felt the need for an on-campus fellowship where they could support each other and discuss the challenges of college life. They created the Coptic Orthodox Fellowship (COF), a support group and safe haven that allowed students to reflect on their experiences, share fellowship, and integrate their Christian beliefs into daily life. What began as a few students meeting in a dorm room quickly grew into a fully accredited campus organization.

The fellowship, often called the Coptic Society, is recognized as the earliest form of the club now serving students at Rutgers Newark and NJIT. Its very first president was Bishoy Assad, who helped lay the foundation for what would become one of the most active faith-based student organizations on campus.

Today, the Coptic Society has grown tremendously, welcoming students from all backgrounds and building a strong community rooted in the Coptic Orthodox faith. With 300+ active members each year, the Society continues its mission of fostering fellowship, strengthening faith, and serving the NJIT and Rutgers Newark campuses with love and dedication.
